The Best Christmas Cookies

It’s the most wonderful time of the year – mostly because every time we enter the kitchen, we smell a delicious treat baking! The holidays are here and so are the treats. Chocolate covered everything fills the Christmas dishes and we can’t keep the milk jug full. Here’s another one to add to your list: Sugar Cookie Tree Cookies from Delish.

What you’ll need:

1 tube sugar cookie dough

1/2 c. butter, softened

2 c. powdered sugar

1 tsp. vanilla extract

2 tbsp. heavy cream

green food coloring

1/2 tsp. salt

Christmas nonpareils

Yellow mini M&Ms or sprinkle stars

How to make it:

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and line a medium cookie sheet with parchment paper. Make an even number of dough balls that are 1, 2 and 3 teaspoons large. Place the balls of dough on a baking sheet and bake them for 5 minutes. Remove the smallest cookies and bake for three to four more minutes. Remove from the oven and let cool on a cooling rack.

Next, to a large bowl and beat the butter with a hand mixer until fluffy. Add powdered sugar and beat until combined. Then, add vanilla, heavy cream, food coloring and salt and beat until combined. Add more food coloring until you have your desired color. Transfer to a piping bag with a medium star tip.

Now it’s time to assemble the trees! Take the largest cookie and add a circle of frosting. Top with the medium cookie and pipe another circle of frosting. Then, top with the smallest cookie and pipe a point on top. Decorate with sprinkles. Top it with a sprinkle star or a yellow M&M and enjoy!
