Red, White and Blue Berry Trifle

Did you nominate yourself to provide the dessert for the Memorial Day celebration? This Red, White and Blue Berry Trifle is a perfect option for cookouts and get-togethers. It’s easy to bake, light and just right for summer gatherings!

The trifle is topped with fresh strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and real whipped cream, making it the perfect patriotic décor.

For the Butter Pound Cake

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup (2 sticks), salted butter, at room temperature
  • Seeds of 1 vanilla bean or 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 5 large eggs, at room temperature

For the Whipped Cream & Berries:

  • 3 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 1/3 cup plus 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 lb. fresh strawberries, stemmed and sliced vertically
  • 1 ½ pints fresh raspberries
  • 1 ½ pints fresh blueberries


The first step is to bake the pound cake. This ingredient calls for butter/vanilla flavored cake, but if you are a chocolate lover or a fan of any other flavor, feel free to make a substitution. If you check this recipe out on, you will find instructions on how to make a cake from scratch.

Once your cake is out of the oven and has cooled off (should take around 15 minutes), cut the cake into cubes. This will be the first layer of your trifle.

In building your trifle, mix the heavy whipping cream at medium-high speed. As the whipping cream thickens, gradually add granulated sugar.

Cover the bottom of your dish with a single layer of the cake cubes. You then will take around 1/3 of the whipped cream and spread it among the cake. Be sure to ice the sides because the next step is to arrange the slices of strawberries vertically against the side of the trifle bowl. You then will cover the strawberries with cream, and then add another layer of fruit, and so on until you get to about the middle of your cake, you then add another layer of cake cubes and continue with your fruit layering until you reach the top of your trifle dish. Top the cake with your remaining whipped cream and arrange your remaining fruit around the top of the trifle.
